The Hindu dated Saturday, Jan 21, 2006

Kozhikode: 'Backwaters 2006', an annual management and cultural festival of the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM-K), will be held on its campus, near here, on Saturday and Sunday.

The event is expected to offer a platform for students to showcase their varied talents. The events range from business simulation games, business plan contests and live case studies to adventure sports, fashion shows, quizzes and parties. Nearly 300 participants from business schools all over the country will participate in the festival.

Business simulation games will give students an opportunity to apply classroom concepts to real-world situations in marketing, finance, operations and consulting. Informal competitions and on-the-spot management games to judge presence of mind rather than their knowledge of management jargon will also be held.

Arul Mani, of the Karnataka Quiz Association, will conduct a business quiz and a general quiz. There will also be a series of online quizzes before and during the event.

The prizes range from cell phones and airline tickets to cash. Off-the-cuff events, such as fashion shows, bonfire parties, adventure sports, DJ Nite, plays and a rock concert by the fusion band Indian Ocean, promise to add colour to the event.

IIM-K will also host IDEA 2006, an enterpreneurial business plan contest, jointly organised by Kerala Venture Capital Fund and IIM-K. IDEA offers a total prize money of Rs. 2 lakhs to the participants.
