The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL) have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on capacity building, training, and knowledge development in the power distribution sector. The agreement marks the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at building a pipeline of skilled, future-ready professionals equipped to address the evolving challenges of the energy sector in India and global markets.
The MoU was formally signed, by Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIM Kozhikode, on behalf of the Institute and Mr. Praveen Agrawal, Chief – Human Resources, Industrial Relations, on behalf of Tata Power-DDL in the presence of senior officials from both organizations.
Under the agreement, IIMK and Tata Power-DDL will jointly design and deliver specialized training and development programs for power sector professionals, with a focus on future-oriented themes such as smart grids, distributed generation, renewable integration, electric mobility, and artificial intelligence applications in power systems. The collaboration will also include joint research, workshops, faculty exchanges, and consultancy projects across national and international contexts.
Announcing the signing of the MoU, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director of IIM Kozhikode, said: “This partnership reaffirms IIM Kozhikode’s commitment to empowering sectors vital to national growth with transformative learning. By combining Tata Power-DDL’s operational excellence in power distribution with IIMK’s academic rigour, we aim to nurture a new generation of agile and responsible energy leaders who can lead India’s transition to a smarter, greener future.”
Speaking about the partnership, Mr. Praveen Agrawal said: “We are pleased to join hands with IIM Kozhikode, a premier institution of national importance, to co-create forward-looking programs that blend academic rigor with relevant industry exposure. This collaboration will play a pivotal role in developing future-ready professionals who are not only technically proficient but also strategically agile, and capable of driving innovation and transformation in the evolving energy landscape.”
Focus areas of this partnership will include energy transition and decarbonization, smart grid management and resilience, digital transformation, leadership development, sustainability and ESG integration, technology roadmap planning, and organizational change management. The initiative is designed to bridge industry practice with academic insight, driving innovation and fostering future-readiness across the power value chain.
The collaboration also facilitates IIMK to invite experts from Tata Power-DDL to its global conclaves and thought leadership events, and for both organizations to jointly pursue consulting and simulation assignments.
This MoU will remain in effect for five years and signifies a long-term partnership dedicated to innovation, sustainable practices, and skilling for the power sector.
