IIM Kozhikode launches 14th Peekay Steel Calicut Half-Marathon

IIM Kozhikode launched the 14th edition of the Peekay Steel Calicut Half Marathon, which is now open for registration. The 14th edition of the Peekay Steel Calicut Half Marathon 2024 will be organized on the 3rd of March 2024 at 5:30 am in the Calicut Beach area.

Peekay Steel has continued its support as the title sponsor for the 14th edition of Calicut Half Marathon while Central Bank of India will be associating as a co-sponsor for the event. Prof. Deepa Sethi, the Dean (Outreach, Executive Education & Internationalisation), and Prof. Rajesh Upadhyayula, the Dean (Programmes), IIM Kozhikode presented the logo to Major Ramakrishnan, GM – Administration, Peekay Steel Castings (P) Ltd and the race T-shirt to Mr. Naresh Saini, Chief Manager, Central Bank of India, Regional Office, Ernakulam. This year the theme for the Marathon is ‘Run for a drug-free future’.

In his message, announcing the dates of the 14th Calicut Half-Marathon, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director IIM Kozhikode saidIIM Kozhikode strongly believes that incremental steps targeting different social issues can bring phenomenal changes when assimilated together. It is this belief that the students of IIM Kozhikode wish to encourage and promote through this marathon. We invite people from this historic city to enthusiastically come forward to participate in the half-marathon and pledge themselves to ensure a drug-free future for our youngsters.”

Prof. Rajesh Upadhyayula, the Dean (Programmes), IIM Kozhikode, spoke at length about the legacy of the Calicut Marathon, the importance of creating awareness about inculcating a drug-free generation and also about working together to build a drug-free India. Prof. Deepa Sethi, the Dean (Outreach, Executive Education & Internationalization), IIM Kozhikode explained that the motive of IIM Kozhikode is to create socially sensitive managers and to pave the way for globalizing Indian thoughts. The Calicut Marathon Committee member then officially announced the route, starting point, and other particulars of the event. The marathon features three categories, a 21 km Half Marathon, a 10 km Mini-Marathon which are competitive races, and a 3 km “Dream Run”, a non-competitive run featuring people from all walks of life. The total prize money for the winners of the event is worth INR 3.6 lakhs.

Prof. Salamah Ansari, Convenor, Calicut Marathon Committee, and Prof. Deepak Dhayanithy, Chairperson, Student Affairs IIM Kozhikode also conveyed their wishes for the marathon.

Over the past fourteen years, the marathon has been taking up unique causes every year, having focused on critical issues of road safety, women empowerment, and rights of differently-abled people, waste management, organ donation, healthy living, and unity run during the pandemic
