The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK), one of India’s Top-3 Management Schools, held its 28th Annual Convocation here, today. The convocation, conferred degrees to a total of 1432 students across eight programmes. Shri TV CEO & Managing Director of Tata Steel Limited, was the Chief Guest for the event which was presided over by Shri VP Nandakumar, Acting Chairperson of the Board of Governors, IIMK and in the presence of Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director IIM Kozhikode.
The ceremony witnessed the following batches of full-time programmes, awarded with the MBA Degree: PGP (488 students), PGP-BL (62), PGP Finance (53), PGP-LSM (54); two batches of Executive MBA Programmes – EPGP Main Campus (581), EPGP Kochi Campus (157).
The 28th edition of IIMK’s biggest ceremonial event also witnessed an award of 37 Doctoral (PhD) Degrees, out of which 22 were awarded to DPM (Regular) and 15 awarded to DPM (Practice Track) Scholars.
Chief Guest Shri T. V. Narendran, CEO & Managing Director of Tata Steel and a native of Kerala, fondly reflected on his ancestral roots in the state and commended the IIM Kozhikode community for the remarkable growth the Institute has achieved in a relatively short span of time. Addressing the graduating cohort, he underscored the importance of cultivating self-awareness in an increasingly uncertain and rapidly evolving world. He encouraged students to view technology—particularly AI—not as a force to be resisted, but as a powerful enabler to be embraced and leveraged. Emphasising the need to remain globally aware, he urged graduates to stay attuned to geopolitical developments in order to navigate a dynamic environment effectively. He also highlighted the critical role of strong interpersonal and soft skills in leadership, and called upon students to remain sensitive to social inequalities, contributing meaningfully towards building a more inclusive and empathetic society.
Shri V. P. Nandakumar, Acting Chairperson of the Board of Governors, expressed his gratitude to the Chief Guest for gracing the occasion and extended heartfelt congratulations to the graduating cohort. He noted that in today’s rapidly evolving and uncertain global landscape, management education plays a vital role in shaping leaders capable of navigating complexity, driving innovation, and making responsible, ethical decisions. Highlighting the continued relevance of institutions like IIM Kozhikode in fostering academic rigour, practical insight, and social consciousness, he urged the graduates to embrace lifelong learning, adaptability, and clarity of thought. Emphasising India’s immense growth potential, he called upon the students to contribute meaningfully by building institutions, creating value, and advancing inclusive and sustainable development, guided by curiosity and anchored in strong values.
Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director IIM Kozhikode, in his report, captured the stellar growth of IIM Kozhikode in global rankings. With Top -100 spots achieved by IIM Kozhikode programmes like PGP, PGP-BL, EPGP Kochi and overall showing in the Business and management category putting the institute alongside institutes such as Carnegie Mellon, University of Tokyo, Princeton and others. His report also updated the IIMK community the institution has made in terms of growth of programmes, the start of IIMK’s third Doctoral programme offering, international achievements by IIMK faculty members and doctoral students. He also excitedly shared that three graduating cohorts of DPM, PGP and PGP-LSM recording more than 50% women candidates emphasising on the pioneering legacy IIM Kozhikode played in empowering women in management. urged students to stay deeply self-aware—of context, capability, and character—as they step into diverse professional paths. While encouraging bold ambition, he emphasised the importance of staying grounded in strong values, reminding them that the future is theirs to shape and that real progress often lies beyond comfort zones.
